Are you passionate about journalism and eager to make your mark on the international stage? You’re just missing the right tools to become a journalist? Would you also like to study within an international context? Then the master’s degree program in transnational journalism (M.A.) may be just right for you!

During your studies, you will learn about journalistic work from the ground up. You will acquire comprehensive skills across all common genres of media: Whether it be print, online, radio or TV journalism, mobile reporting, social media, podcasts or even virtual reality, you will be able to apply and perfect your practical skillsets in the field. This is thanks to the availability of modern technical equipment, including the university’s own radio and TV studios. At the same time, you will scientifically explore the impacts and reception of media.

The education you will receive is not only practically relevant, but also internationally oriented: As a part of your master’s degree, you will study at two universities: in Mainz and at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle in France. Your program of study is therefore trilingual: German, English, and French. You will not only advance your language proficiency, but also refine your intercultural competencies. You will become optimally prepared for the transnational job market thanks to language training and in-depth insights into regional and cultural studies, as well as the social, political, and media landscapes of both countries. You will also benefit from working with international journalists and have the opportunity to contribute to international research projects as well as public collaborations. Through compulsory internships, both in Germany and abroad, you will deepen your knowledge and strengthen your professional network.

Individual student advising will guarantee that your education has been tailored to your needs.

In addition to holding an international degree from both Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz and the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle – Paris 3, you will also have amazing prospects on the German-French and international job market once you have completed your degree.

Typical questions that will come up during your studies include:

  • How can international cooperation amongst journalists be intensified?
  • How can new und upcoming journalists be best prepared for the globalized (journalistic) world?
  • What effect does journalism have and how can journalistic qualities be maintained and guaranteed for the future?
