This program of study is suitable for you if you enjoy finding the answers to tricky questions and would like to help shape the future. Necessary skills include independence and teamwork.
It also proves useful, though not necessary, to be able to program, as this will be taught from the ground up starting in the first semester. It is also not a prerequisite to have prior understanding of the structure of a computer.
English language proficiency will be needed in the more advanced portions of the program of study when having to read specialist literature.
Course sequence
During your first academic year, you will get to know the basic logical structure of pure mathematics as well as the essential fundamentals of computer science.
Content:
- Linear algebra and geometry
- Analysis
- Introduction to programming and the technical fundamentals of computer science
- Formal languages, databases
During your second academic year, you will become familiar with concepts of applied mathematics and expand your knowledge in an elective course for mathematics. At the same time, you will deepen your understanding of theoretical computer science and software development.
Content:
- Introduction to numerical analysis and stochastics
- Advanced mathematics course
- Programming languages, data structures, algorithms, software development
In your third academic year, you will work with advanced content in seminars and advanced seminars and also write your bachelor’s thesis on a specialized topic of your choice.
During this third academic year, you will also select a specializations that is in line with your own personal interests.
Electives for mathematics: Continued stochastics, numerical analysis, algebra, topology, algebraic geometry, analysis, and more.
Electives for computer science: Computer graphics, bioinformatics, high performance computing, big data, machine learning, operating systems, IT security, program analysis, advanced algorithms, optimization techniques, trustworthy databases/blockchain.
Stays abroad
Would you like to live abroad for a semester or a year? Do you want to learn another language and get to know a new culture? Or gain a different perspective on your particular subject? A stay abroad provides you with the perfect opportunity to achieve this and is possible with every degree program – either self-organized or by taking advantage of one of the popular exchange programs. This is made possible by various cooperation agreements and partnerships with foreign universities.

This program of study does not require you to spend time abroad, but you nevertheless have the opportunity to do so.
The most suitable time to study abroad is typically after the fourth semester.
Internships
This program of study does not include a mandatory internship. However, voluntary internships are a great way to gain insight into a professional field.
An internship allows you to discover whether everyday life in a particular occupation suits your career expectations and interests. You can gain qualifications for a professional field and acquire important professional and personal skills to start a career. An internship helps you both shape your career path, and mold the remainder of your course sequence – in particular by selecting specializations that suit your practical experience.
