- You must provide proof of French language proficiency to be admitted to the program, either by
- having taken at least five years of French at school, in which you received a minimum of 5 points or the grade “adequate” (“ausreichend”), or
- by providing proof in accordance with the appendix to section 7 subsection 3 of JGU’s enrollment regulations for French at B2 level, or
- by presenting a university entrance qualification earned at a French-language school, or
- by presenting an Abi-Bac (simultaneous achievement of the German Abitur (Abi) and the French baccalauréat (Bac)).
- The subject-specific entrance requirement for the master’s degree program Comparative Literature / Lettres Modernes is proof of a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent degree earned at a higher education institution in Germany or abroad. This must be a bachelor’s degree in the Comparative Literature / European Literature program offered by JGU (as a major or minor subject), or a bachelor’s degree in General and Comparative Literature, or a bachelor’s degree in French Philology (as a major or minor subject), or an equivalent bachelor’s degree earned at a higher education institution in Germany or abroad. The bachelor’s degree program should include a clearly identifiable connection to French Philology. If you apply before the completion of your bachelor’s program, you must provide proof of having completed at least two thirds of the required subject-related credits by the end of the application deadline.
- In addition to fluency in German and French, you are also expected to be able to read literature in English. Your reading comprehension will be assessed via a translation examination during the first academic semester unless you provide another form of proof (e.g., in the context of the previous bachelor’s degree program). If you cannot provide proof of your level of reading comprehension, you must provide proof within six weeks, otherwise you cannot be admitted to the courses of the second academic semester.
- If you did not obtain your university entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung, HZB) from a German institution and you did not complete a German-language degree program, you must submit proof of German language proficiency at B2 level under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) in accordance with section 7 a subsection 3 of JGU’s enrollment regulations in order to enroll.
