It doesn’t always work out with your first choice of university. Perhaps your priorities have changed after a few semesters and you would now like to switch universities. This is not always so simple in selective degree programs. Swapping places with a student at another university may be an option.

Certain requirements must be fulfilled before we can approve your application to swap places:

• The degree program at JGU must be selective.
• You must have a partner who would like to assume your spot at university in exchange for theirs.
• The student who is transferring to JGU must not want to apply for an academic leave of absence.
• You and all other swapping partners must be enrolled or re-registered at your/their original university.
• You and all other swapping partners must be enrolled in the same academic semester. A deciding factor in the clinical portion of medicine and dentistry programs is that all swapping partners have completed the same number of clinical semesters.
• All participating universities must agree to the request to swap places.

Your application must be received by the last day of the semester.

We do not require documents by post for the application.

It makes no difference to which university you submit an application first. As the person transferring to JGU, you will submit an electronic application to swap places.

You start your application/registration on our application platform JOGU-StINe.

We will begin reviewing your application once we have received it. If documents are missing or if we have follow-up questions, we will reach out via email. Please submit the missing documents as soon as possible.

We will then make a decision based on your application. Our decision will be made available in JOGU-StINe as a notification under “Application/Registration” > “Documents” > “My documents.” We will inform you via email that the notification has been made available.

You must upload various documents as part of the online application. You can prepare these in advance.

Your own documents:
• A complete and current CV up until the day you submit your application
• Enrollment certificate from your previous university
• A scan of your university entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung, HZB)
• If available: approval from other university or universities to swap places

Applicants in the fifth academic semester of medicine or in the sixth academic semester of dentistry without a pre-clinical examination will also need:
• Proof of eligibility to take exams at JGU

Applicants in the clinical semester in medicine or dentistry need:
• An upload of your interim or partial examination certificate or
• Provisional proof that you have passed the pre-clinical examination

Applicants swapping places with foreign certificates will also need:
• Proof of the German language proficiency required for your degree program
• In the preclinical area: a certificate of recognition from JGU or from a recognized education authority

Documents from the other students participating in a multi-person swap:
• Core personal data from the previous university
• Enrollment certificate from the previous university

If your swapping partner would rather submit their personal documents themselves, the relevant documents can be sent via email to studsek@uni-mainz.de. In the subject line of the email, please include the application number of the swapping partner who is transferring to JGU.

It may take some time to process the application. Your application to swap places must be approved by all participating universities.

If you have not already done so, please send us all approvals from from the universities participating in the swap via email.

Information for those leaving JGU in the first academic semester
As soon as we have received all approvals, we will review whether you have fulfilled all of the requirements for enrollment. If you do fulfill the requirements, no enrollment will be carried out since you are changing to a different university. Therefore, you will not receive an enrollment certificate or confirmation of exmatriculation from us. Instead, we will send you an email explaining the procedure for your new university. Should your new university request a confirmation of exmatriculation, please instead provide our email address to your new university.

However, if you are already enrolled at JGU, you must apply to waive your spot at the university and submit proof of this to your new university. We will provide you with this verification via email once we have processed the request.

Information for those leaving JGU in an advanced academic semester
As soon as you have received the official letter of admission from the university to which you would like to transfer, you can apply for exmatriculation from JGU in JOGU-StINe.

Information for those transferring to JGU
As soon as we have received all approvals, the official letter of admission will be made available for download in JOGU-StINe. This letter will include the deadline by which you must accept the spot, a request for payment, and a list of documents required for enrollment. As a rule, these must be submitted by post.

We will enroll you once we have received all documents and the semester fee has been paid. You will receive all further information via email. Once you have activated your student account, you will be able to download your enrollment certificate from JOGU-StINe.
