Grade of the decision
During the recognition procedure, we convert the grades of your international certificates of academic achievement to the German grading system. The selection statutes contain the rules for converting your international grades. You will find the average grade we calculated on your certificate of recognition.

Date of the decision
In the “university entrance qualification” section of your application, enter the date that appears on your certificate of recognition.

Subject specification
If your certificate of recognition is subject-based, meaning it includes a specification of subject, then you can only study subjects that fit this specification. “All subjects” means you are not restricted in this regard. In this case, you can apply for all subjects.

You can only apply for a degree program once you have passed the assessment test (Feststellungsprüfung) at a German Studienkolleg.

Apply for one of the following

• Participation in the Studienkolleg to prepare for the assessment test
• Participation in the external assessment test right away

Since you cannot retake the assessment test an unlimited number of times, we recommend that you attend the Studienkolleg to prepare for it.

In the “university entrance qualification” section of your online application, enter the grade and date of the decision in the appropriate field.

Subject specification
If your certificate of recognition is subject-based, meaning it includes a specification of subject, then you can only study subjects that fit this specification upon passing the assessment test. Having taken a course at the Studienkolleg does not exempt you from your subject specification.

You can apply for a master’s or graduate degree program.

Whether you can enroll in your desired master’s degree program also depends on whether the subject-specific knowledge you have acquired in your previous studies fulfills the subject-specific prerequisites of the master’s degree program in question. You can find out which subject-specific prerequisites apply in the corresponding degree description.

Filling out your application
There are several decisions on your certificate of recognition. If you find “direct university admission” on your certificate of recognition, enter the appropriate information in the “university entrance qualification” section.

• If the decision is for “all subjects,” select “International: general university entrance qualification”
• If the decision is subject-based, select “International: subject-based university entrance qualification”

You can apply for a master’s degree program even if you do not yet have a degree from your bachelor’s program.
