Would you like to spend one or two semesters with us, but have discovered that JGU Mainz does not have a partnership with your home university? You can apply for an independent exchange as what we call a \u2018free mover\u2019 \u2013 a visiting student who has organized their stay abroad on their own. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In order to study at JGU as a free mover, you must submit an official request. The faculties will review all requests received and decide whether they are able to offer you a spot. Factors such as capacity as well as subject-specific and language requirements influence the outcome and can vary from semester to semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n\n \n\n

Admission to JGU is subject-linked, meaning that admission can only be granted if your program of study at your home institution is equivalent to the one that you are interested in at JGU. Before submitting your request, please check to see which subjects are offered at JGU and if one of these is related to your area of study at your home institution. The subject coordinators will determine based on your transcript of records whether the content of your degree program matches the degree program at JGU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n<\/jgu-base-buttonitem>\n\n<\/jgu-base-button>\n\n\n \n<\/jgu-base-alertbox>\n\n<\/jgu-base-accordionitem>\n\n\n \n\n

Your subject of study<\/strong> determines your eligibility to be able to carry out your exchange at JGU. This means you can only enroll if you fulfill the language requirements for your program of study at JGU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, not all subjects at JGU offer courses in English. Some subjects offer courses in English, but not on a regular basis<\/strong>. Therefore, German proficiency at the B1 level or higher is a prerequisite in order to be able to be accepted into a study abroad program for certain subjects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your request to study as a free mover is to be submitted to International Student Support, which will thoroughly review the information you provide and forward the application to the appropriate departments for further technical review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Request forms can be submitted from January 1 to 31 (for the winter semester) or from July 1 to 31 (for the summer semester).<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

At the end of the form, please upload the following documents:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    All free mover requests are reviewed by the appropriate department at JGU. Decisions on acceptance or rejection are based upon subject-related eligibility, language proficiency, and availability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You will be contacted by the International Student Support office with the results via email by either April (for the winter semester) or by October (for the summer semester) at the latest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

    If you received an acceptance notice, you will also be sent further information regarding the preparation for your stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

    Have you been accepted and offered a spot as a free mover? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Congratulations!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Now you just have to accept the offer. To accept, fill out the form which will be linked in the email and upload confirmation from your home institution<\/strong> (a PDF of an email is sufficient), in which they state that they also agree to your stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

    All exchange students must formally apply to JGU once they have been accepted as free movers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
