If you have any questions regarding this, please contact the appropriate academic advising office, listed at the end of this program description.\" data-info-popup-headline=\"\" class=\"jgu-with-info-popup\">Important information for all students who have not completed a Bachelor\u00a0of\u00a0Education (for teacher education for <i>Gymnasium<\/i>) in Rhineland-Palatinate<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">If you <strong>have not yet received your bachelor&#8217;s degree certificate by the application deadline<\/strong>, but have earned at least 135 credits in your bachelor&#8217;s program, you must apply by the set deadline with a transcript (issued by your university) of all coursework and exams completed to date, including your average grade to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applicants who have not obtained a university entrance qualification at a German-speaking institution or a degree in a German-speaking course must provide proof of sufficient German language skills. Here, you can select courses that build on the topics covered in the two previous sections or cover a different subject area, provided that the content is related to the courses you have already selected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The specialization generally consists of a lecture and a seminar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">4) The Development of Mathematics: Historical and Thematic Perspectives<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">In this course, you will engage deeply with the cultural history of mathematics and, above all, explore the origins of mathematical problems and thought processes. Exciting topics await you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The development of number systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The discovery and study of irrational numbers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Construction problems using a compass and straight edge<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The three classical unsolved problems and ancient analysis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The theory of conic sections in antiquity and the early modern period<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Geometric models in astronomy and cosmology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The birth of algebra in the Islamic tradition and its introduction to Europe<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Geometric optics and extreme value problems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The treatment of infinitesimal quantities at the time of the emergence of infinitesimal calculus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">5) Subject didactics<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">In this section, you will learn about selected challenges in upper secondary (Sekundarstufe II) mathematics education through a lecture and a seminar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Good to know: In addition to the five sections mentioned, there may be another one \u2013  your master\u2019s thesis. This section is optional, as you are free to choose in which of your two subject areas you write your master&#8217;s thesis as part of the Master of Education degree program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:60px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Internships<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Master of Education program, you will complete a 15-day internship at a <i>Gymnasium<\/i> during the lecture-free period (March \u2013 April or August \u2013 October). The academic focus is on teaching in the upper level of the <i>Gymnasium<\/i>.
