A major motivation for neuroscience stems from reflecting on our own behavior and applying mechanistic insights to preserve the nervous system and treat pathological conditions. The integration of new methodological approaches now provides excellent opportunities to experimentally investigate cognitive abilities at the molecular and cellular levels and thereby understand and influence the computational capacity of neural networks.&lt;\\\/p&gt;\\n\\n\\n\\n&lt;p class=\\&quot;has-big-font-size wp-block-paragraph\\&quot;&gt;The development of pluripotent stem cells not only provides opportunity to study natural neuronal systems (brains), but also to gain a better understanding of their cellular and molecular components. Neuroscience therefore encompasses an extremely broad range of research areas. It draws on the integration of knowledge from many fields of biology (cell biology, molecular biology, genetics) and other natural sciences and engineering disciplines, such as physics, chemistry, and computer science.&lt;\\\/p&gt;\\n\\n\\n\\n&lt;p class=\\&quot;has-big-font-size wp-block-paragraph\\&quot;&gt; The aim of the English-language M.Sc. degree program in Neuroscience is to train neuroscientists with a solid knowledge base and expertise in molecular and cellular neurobiology. Two aspects are of particular importance. First, students receive vocational training in optical, electrophysiological, neurogenetic, histological, and behavioral techniques. The examination committee of the faculty will determine the type and scope of the additional coursework and\/or examinations required based on the record of academic achievement submitted. Any required additional coursework and examinations should not exceed 60 credit points and must be completed within one academic year. If the required documentation is not submitted within the specified deadline, it will no longer be possible to continue the degree program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Students are expected to have sufficient active and passive English language proficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The following language proficiency requirements apply to applicants from Germany: Abitur grade (English taken as a basic course with a grade of \u201csufficient\u201d (5 points) or better), or a B2-level language certificate for applicants who cannot provide proof of English in their Abitur. Documents that will be recognized as proof are listed in section 7, subsection 5 of the enrollment regulations (Einschreibeordnung) of Johannes Gutenberg University.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The following language proficiency requirements apply to international applicants: Proof of required language proficiency in English. The minimum required level is B2 pursuant to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Documents that may be recognized are stipulated in the appendix to section 7a, subsection 3 of the JGU enrollment regulations. Proof of German language skills is not required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:60px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">A further requirement for admission to the master&#8217;s degree program in Neuroscience is the retention of your eligibility to take the corresponding degree program examinations and the participation in an interview. The integration of new methodological approaches now provides excellent opportunities to experimentally investigate cognitive abilities at the molecular and cellular levels and thereby understand and influence the computational capacity of neural networks.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph {\"className\":\"has-big-font-size\"} -->\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size\">The development of pluripotent stem cells not only provides opportunity to study natural neuronal systems (brains), but also to gain a better understanding of their cellular and molecular components. Neuroscience therefore encompasses an extremely broad range of research areas. It draws on the integration of knowledge from many fields of biology (cell biology, molecular biology, genetics) and other natural sciences and engineering disciplines, such as physics, chemistry, and computer science.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph {\"className\":\"has-big-font-size\"} -->\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size\"> The aim of the English-language M.Sc. degree program in Neuroscience is to train neuroscientists with a solid knowledge base and expertise in molecular and cellular neurobiology. Two aspects are of particular importance. First, students receive vocational training in optical, electrophysiological, neurogenetic, histological, and behavioral techniques. Second, students learn to analyze and interpret data using computational methods, including developing a deeper understanding of how to work with and analyze \u201cbig data.\u201d<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n<!-- \/wp:jgu\/collapsible-area -->\n\n<!-- wp:jgu\/accordion {\"selected\":1} -->\n<!-- wp:jgu\/accordion-item {\"title\":\"What are the prerequisites?\",\"init\":false,\"slug\":\"what-are-the-prerequisites\"} -->\n<!-- wp:jgu\/heading {\"tags\":{\"htmlTag\":\"h2\",\"classTag\":\"h3\",\"tag\":\"h2.h3\"},\"heading\":\"Entrance requirements\"} \/-->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size\">Entrance requirements for the Neuroscience master's degree program are:<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size\">Proof of a bachelor\u2019s degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, biomedicine, molecular medicine, biophysics, or bioinformatics, or a degree from a higher education institution in Germany or abroad that does not differ substantially from these degrees.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size\">If a bachelor\u2019s degree in another natural science related to biology is presented, admission may be granted subject to certain conditions. The examination committee of the faculty will determine the type and scope of the additional coursework and\/or examinations required based on the record of academic achievement submitted. Any required additional coursework and examinations should not exceed 60 credit points and must be completed within one academic year. If the required documentation is not submitted within the specified deadline, it will no longer be possible to continue the degree program.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size\">Students are expected to have sufficient active and passive English language proficiency.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>The following language proficiency requirements apply to applicants from Germany: Abitur grade (English taken as a basic course with a grade of \u201csufficient\u201d (5 points) or better), or a B2-level language certificate for applicants who cannot provide proof of English in their Abitur.
