Although studying literature and culture in the Russian language necessitates a desire to learn the language, prior knowledge of the language is not necessary: You can start from the beginning at JGU. The intensive course for students of the Russian language<\/a><\/strong> takes place in September\/October and March\/April, i.e., before the semester begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an aspiring teacher, a love of teaching, an interest in an array of didactic texts, and a good instinct for working with students are important requirements. You should also be interested in continually engaging with the Russian language, culture, and society. Experience and associations with Russia are not a requirement, but may facilitate your entry into the program.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/jgu-base-accordionitem>\n\n\n \n\n

This program is studied as a part of the <\/b>Bachelor of Education<\/a> degree program (teacher education for Gymnasium<\/i>)<\/strong>. The degree program always includes two teaching subjects as well as the subject of Education Studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Program structure<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1st\u20132nd semester: Fundamentals<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a student of Russian, you will focus on the basics of language and linguistics as well as modern literary and cultural theories in order to be able to apply these to Russian topics within the first two semesters. To this end, you will attend courses in literature, linguistics, and cultural studies and learn the theoretical and methodical basics of text analysis. In addition, you will acquire didactic skills in order to be able to teach the subject creatively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the subject content, you will acquire a wide range of key competences. These include academic writing, giving presentations, taking part in discussions, intercultural competence, media literacy, and carrying out your own academic work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3rd\u20136th semester: Advanced phase<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the later semesters, you will expand on your language proficiency by consolidating your knowledge of Russian grammar, improving your communication skills, and learning how to translate Russian texts. At the same time, you will continue working on your teaching skills and learn how to design your own lessons. In addition, you will take part in seminars on regional studies and learn about the culture and history of the East Slavs from Kyivan Rus\u2019 to the present day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stay abroad<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Would you like to live abroad for half a year or a whole year? Do you want to get to know another language and culture? Would you like to get a different perspective on your particular degree program? A stay abroad provides you with the perfect opportunity to achieve this and is possible with every degree program \u2013 either self-organized or by taking advantage of one of the popular exchange programs. This is made possible by various partnerships with foreign universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this program of study, you are required to spend at least three months abroad in a Russian-speaking country. It is advised to complete your stay abroad from the 3rd semester onwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Internships<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Bachelor of Education, you will complete three 3-week internships and experience different types of schools firsthand. This practical experience will complement your theoretical training, help you practice your pedagogical skills in the classroom, and give you direction for your future career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The teacher education degree program prepares you \u2013\u00a0and is a prerequisite \u2013 for a career as a teacher at a Gymnasium<\/i><\/strong> <\/i>in Germany. Not only will you acquire comprehensive knowledge about the subject, you will also learn how to convey this knowledge to your future students in a fun and creative way, while inspiring interest for your subject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To work as a teacher later on, you must also obtain the Master of Education<\/a> after completing your bachelor\u2019s degree and then complete a teacher traineeship (Referendariat<\/i>)<\/a>. The first, university-based phase of your teacher education ends with the recognition of your B.Ed. and M.Ed. degrees as the First State Examination. The second phase, the teacher traineeship (Referendariat), generally lasts 18 months in Rhineland-Palatinate and concludes with the Second State Examination. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, you are not restricted solely to classroom teaching after completing the teacher education program. You can also work in a variety of professional fields beyond teaching in public schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

One related professional field is foreign language teaching, e.g., at a Volkshochschule<\/i> or other extracurricular educational institutions for adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, further professional fields are open to you, especially those in which competence in the Russian language and an in-depth knowledge of Russia itself are required.
