To teach a foreign language and study its literature and culture requires a excellent language proficiency. For this course of studies, you will therefore need strong Spanish skills at level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages<\/strong>. Although prior language proficiency is not necessary for enrollment, you will need to provide proof of your abilities before the beginning of the lecture period through a language entrance test.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you did not take the language entrance test at the beginning of your studies, you can still enroll in Module 1 without prior proof of language proficiency. Successfully passing the final exam for Module 1 also fulfills the language entrance test requirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a future teacher, a love of teaching, a good instinct for working with pupils, and a sense of responsibility are important requirements for handling the upcoming variety of pedagogical work in your working life. You should also have an interest in the cultures and societies associated with the Spanish language. A love of Spanish-language literature, experience of and exposure to Hispanophone cultures, or previous residence in a Spanish-speaking country are not required but may help you at the beginning of your studies.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/jgu-base-accordionitem>\n\n\n \n\n

This program is studied as a part of the <\/b>Bachelor of Education<\/a> degree program (teacher education for Gymnasium<\/i>)<\/strong>. The degree program always includes two teaching subjects as well as the subject of Education Studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Program structure<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the beginning of your Spanish studies, you will cover the general basics of the language practice and linguistics<\/strong> of Spanish before you consolidate your knowledge and skills in oral and written intercultural communication<\/strong>. You will also study Spanish grammar, edit Spanish texts, attend linguistics lectures and consolidate your knowledge of the basics of cultural studies<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the second academic year, you will begin to study literature<\/strong> <\/b>and further deepen your knowledge of linguistics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the third academic year, your studies conclude with subject didactics<\/strong>, in which you learn how to teach literary and linguistic content. Within the subject areas mentioned above, you are free to choose your courses from the existing range of topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Spanish Bachelor of Education degree program, you will complete a mandatory study period of at least three months in a Spanish-speaking country. However, you may also complete the study period abroad during the subsequent master\u2019s program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Internships<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Bachelor of Education, you will complete three 3-week internships and experience different types of schools firsthand. This practical experience will complement your theoretical training, help you practice your pedagogical skills in the classroom, and give you direction for your future career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The teacher education degree program prepares you \u2013\u00a0and is a prerequisite \u2013 for a career as a teacher at a Gymnasium<\/i><\/strong> <\/i>in Germany. Not only will you acquire comprehensive knowledge about the subject, you will also learn how to convey this knowledge to your future students in a fun and creative way, while inspiring interest for your subject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To work as a teacher later on, you must also obtain the Master of Education<\/a> after completing your bachelor\u2019s degree and then complete a teacher traineeship (Referendariat<\/i>)<\/a>. The first, university-based phase of your teacher education ends with the recognition of your B.Ed. and M.Ed. degrees as the First State Examination. The second phase, the teacher traineeship (Referendariat), generally lasts 18 months in Rhineland-Palatinate and concludes with the Second State Examination. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, you are not restricted solely to classroom teaching after completing the teacher education program. You can also work in a variety of professional fields beyond teaching in public schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Another related professional field is foreign language teaching in an adult education center or another extracurricular education institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
