Entrance requirements for the Neuroscience master’s degree program are:

Proof of a bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, biomedicine, molecular medicine, biophysics, or bioinformatics, or a degree from a higher education institution in Germany or abroad that does not differ substantially from these degrees.

If a bachelor’s degree in another natural science related to biology is presented, admission may be granted subject to certain conditions. The examination committee of the faculty will determine the type and scope of the additional coursework and/or examinations required based on the record of academic achievement submitted. Any required additional coursework and examinations should not exceed 60 credit points and must be completed within one academic year. If the required documentation is not submitted within the specified deadline, it will no longer be possible to continue the degree program.

Students are expected to have sufficient active and passive English language proficiency.

• The following language proficiency requirements apply to applicants from Germany: Abitur grade (English taken as a basic course with a grade of “sufficient” (5 points) or better), or a B2-level language certificate for applicants who cannot provide proof of English in their Abitur. Documents that will be recognized as proof are listed in section 7, subsection 5 of the enrollment regulations (Einschreibeordnung) of Johannes Gutenberg University.
• The following language proficiency requirements apply to international applicants: Proof of required language proficiency in English. The minimum required level is B2 pursuant to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Documents that may be recognized are stipulated in the appendix to section 7a, subsection 3 of the JGU enrollment regulations. Proof of German language skills is not required.

A further requirement for admission to the master’s degree program in Neuroscience is the retention of your eligibility to take the corresponding degree program examinations and the participation in an interview. A corresponding declaration must be submitted for verification.

If you have not yet received your bachelor’s degree certificate by the application deadline, but have earned at least 135 credits in your bachelor’s program, you must apply by the set deadline with a transcript (issued by your university) of all coursework and exams completed to date, including your average grade to date.
