Receiving an official letter of partial admission means you were admitted for either your major or minor subject, or one of the two teaching subjects in the Bachelor of Education, but we are unable to offer you a spot for the other subject. In these cases, you have two options:
If you have received several partial admissions, you can only accept one of them. It is not possible to achieve your desired combination of subjects by combining several partial admissions.
Perhaps you applied for a subject with selective admission but were rejected, as there were more applications than spots available for your desired subject. The rejection letter for programs with a lack of spots includes the table of cutoff ranks. It provides an overview of the current status of a potential waitlist.
The following options are available if you have received a letter of rejection:
Sometimes applicants are admitted but choose not to accept their spot. The spots that become available are given to people on the waitlist.
If you are not admitted to the program during the main admission procedure, or if you have not yet accepted the admission, you will automatically be placed on the waitlist. If you participate in the waitlist procedure, you will only be notified by an official letter if you are admitted; no further rejection notices will be sent.
Were you denied an offer of admission or did you miss the application deadline? Then take part in the admission lottery.
If there are still spots available after the waitlist procedure is finished, they will be assigned at random among the lottery participants. You will only receive a notification if you have been awarded a spot at the university in the lottery admission procedure.
Additionally, you can apply for a non-selective degree program within the application period via JOGU-StINe. If you do not receive a spot through the waitlist procedure or lottery process, you can still begin your studies. If it is possible to begin the program in the following semester, you may reapply for your desired subject with selective admission. If you are enrolled, your application is then considered a change of subject.
Even if you cannot secure a spot in any procedure, you can still apply again next semester!
Congratulations! You have been offered a spot at the university. Just a few more steps to go until you can start your studies.

In some cases, you may be granted admission provided that you meet certain requirements by a set date. A common case is if your final bachelor’s semester is still in progress. In such cases, enrollment is granted for a limited period. It the requirements are not met, your enrollment in the master’s program will expire.
There can be different reasons for being rejected. However, you still have options!
Did you receive a subject-related rejection because your previous program of study did not qualify you for your chosen master’s degree program? You now have the following options:
You can apply for a degree program your bachelor’s degree qualifies you for.
You can contact the responsible academic advisory office to find out about your options.
Did you apply for a selective admission subject but were rejected due to lack of spots? If you are not admitted to the program during the main admission procedure, or if you have not yet accepted the admission, you will automatically be placed on the waitlist. If you are put on the waitlist, you will only receive a notification if you are subsequently admitted.
Provided that the application deadline has not yet passed, you can apply again with all your documents in the correct format. If the application deadline has passed, you must reapply at the next possible date.
Were you denied an offer of admission or did you miss the application deadline? Then take part in the admission lottery. If there are still spots available after the waitlist procedure is finished, they will be assigned at random among the participants in the lottery. You will only be informed if you were selected in the lottery.

If you have submitted all documents completely and correctly, you will usually be enrolled within three weeks – in time for the start of classes.

There can be different reasons for being rejected. Please take note of the following scenarios and take action accordingly.
- Your application was incomplete: If the application deadline has not yet passed, you can submit a new application with all of the necessary documents.
If the application deadline has passed, you can reapply for admission for the following semester.
- You do not have the relevant university entrance qualification: You cannot be admitted to the German language course with every type of university entrance qualification. You may need to apply to the Studienkolleg.
- You do not have a valid certificate of recognition: Without a valid certificate of recognition issued either by JGU or by one of the German education authorities, you cannot apply with foreign educational qualifications. Unfortunately, certificates of recognition from uniassist are not accepted.
- You do not have valid proof of your German language proficiency: Without proof of at least B1-level German proficiency, we cannot enroll you in the German language course.
If you do not want to lose any time and wish to start studying your desired subject at JGU as soon as possible, then you can also acquire suitable proof of German language proficiency for your application to a degree program externally.
Receiving a place in the Studienkolleg requires a successful application anda good result on the admission examination. Your official letter of admission will contain information regarding where and when you will need to take the examination.
The Studienkolleg has a limited number of spots. You can find information on the admission examination and the examination subjects on the website of the International Preparatory and Language Center (ISSK).

There are various reasons why you may receive a rejection. Depending on your situation, you have different options.
- You have uploaded a recognition certificate that is not accepted by JGU (e.g., uni-assist). Apply for recognition and apply at the next possible date after you have received the certificate of recognition.
- You do not have the relevant university entrance qualification: You cannot be admitted to the Studienkolleg with every type of university entrance qualification. If your certificate of recognition indicates that passing the assessment test is not required, please check if you are eligible to apply for a degree program or for the preparatory German language course.
- You do not have the necessary German language certificates required for participation in the Studienkolleg. Obtain a valid language certificate and reapply at the next possible date.
