Are you interested in coming to JGU for an exchange program or have you already been nominated by your home university?

Read on for information about applying!

You must apply for your exchange program at JGU in due time and in the proper form. You can find step-by-step instructions on what to do when on this webpage.

If you have questions, contact International Student Support – they’ll be happy to help.

All students not seeking a degree at JGU must first be nominated by their home institution or be accepted by the faculty at JGU.

Erasmus+ students (exchange program) and students who want to come to Mainz via a university partnership or a scholarship program (DAAD, Fulbright, Rotary, other) must submit an application with their home institution / funding provider and are then nominated at JGU. JGU will check and confirm the nomination. After that, you can submit an application to JGU.

Students who want to come to Mainz as free movers outside of existing agreements and partnerships must first go through a selection procedure. The responsible faculty will decide whether you will be accepted. If you are accepted, your home institution must confirm that the study abroad period can take place, only then will this form of nomination be confirmed. After that, you can submit an application to JGU.

If you are completing an internship at JGU, enrollment is not necessarily required. Depending on the duration and timing of your internship, you may be eligible to enroll as an exchange student. This status entitles you to the same benefits as other exchange students, including the Germany-wide semester ticket, eligibility to apply for student housing, and access to networking opportunities with fellow students. If you have questions, contact International Student Support – they’ll be happy to help. We will inform you about the available options and the requirements. Once everything has been clarified, your home university and/or the receiving department at JGU must nominate you. After that, you can submit an application to JGU.

There are other requirements for exchange students at JGU as for degree seeking students. The most important topics are:

Admission for a stay abroad at JGU is always tied to a specific subject. This means you can only enroll if you fulfill the requirements for your program of study at JGU. Usually your home university chooses the compartible program of study at JGU.

You can also choose courses from other subjects.

If you have specific questions about the (English-language) course offer and the language of instruction, please get in touch with the departmental coordinator.

Not all subjects at JGU offer courses in English. In some subjects, courses in English are only offered sporadically. Therefore, German proficiency at the B1 level or higher is a prerequisite for being accepted to an exchange program in some subjects.
