Studying without a German Abitur? You can do it at Johannes Gutenberg University (JGU) in Mainz!
Did you complete vocational training with a grade of 2.5 or better? Would you now like to expand your knowledge in a similar course of study? Or have you perhaps already passed a master craftsperson examination (Meisterprüfung)?

In order to apply for a degree program, you need a university entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung, HZB). Depending on which professional qualification you possess, there are different types of university entrance qualifications in Rhineland-Palatinate, which you can apply for online at JGU.
Direct subject-based HZB:
You have completed vocational training relevant to the course with a minimum grade of 2.5.
Because the subject-based university entrance qualification is only valid for programs of study within a narrow range of subjects, it is generally not possible to change subjects. For each desired program of study, a separate HZB application must be submitted. For the Bachelor of Education / teacher education program, your prior education must be related to at least one of the two disciplines you will study. For the two-subject bachelor’s program, the content must be related to the major subject.
Direct general HZB:
You have a master craftsperson’s certificate or equivalent continuing education that builds upon your training and education.
The direct general HZB enables you to study without subject-based restrictions. It is therefore possible to change subjects, if you wish. In order to find out whether transferring to another university in another state is possible, please contact the higher education institution in question directly.

Before you apply for a (subject-based) university entrance qualification based on your professional qualifications, you must first complete these two steps:
The application for a university entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung, HZB) can be completed online on our application platform.You can submit your request along with the required documents in the proper form by post.
In general, the processing time for the request is four weeks. Please be aware that notarized copies of your documents pertaining to your vocational training are required and that this may take additional time.
Apply from April 1 to June 15
Apply from October 1 to December 15

The info nights for professionally qualified individuals interested in Medicine and Dentistry generally take place online once a month at 6:00 pm. You do not have to register in advance. You can easily join and participate via the link. The steps required to apply for the university entrance qualification (HZB) and for the application as well as the selection procedure for a spot at the university for medicine and dentistry will be addressed.
Did you know? Support and information services are offered for those in the Medicine and Dentistry degree programs. This includes preparatory courses in biology, chemistry, and physics as well as tutorials throughout the semester.
